James Nelson Obituary

James Patrick Nelson, age 66, of Carlton, Pa., passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, at The Caring Place of Franklin, PA, after losing a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.

He was born in Greenville, PA on March 23, 1957, the son of the late Fred Sr. and Florence Kobel Nelson.

Jim graduated from Greenville High School class of 1975 and went on to pursue his passion for chemistry at Alleghany College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Chemistry in 1979.

Jim worked as a Regional Manager for SGS Testing for over 30 years and was renowned in his industry for his diligence, loyalty, and skill. During this time, he resided in Conneaut OH, and Chicago, IL.

Jim loved being on his farm, which was originally his grandparent’s homestead. The farm has been in Jim’s family for over 140 years. He had a wonderful green thumb and spent hours planting flowers and trees into coalesced organic designs bringing new life to the old homestead.

He enjoyed being outdoors, watching and attending Formula 1 Racing events and especially loved spending time with and doting over his sister, nieces and girlfriend, Lorri.  Lorri was the love of his life and devoted her time to caring, and loving him.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his oldest brother Fred Jr (Janet).

He is survived by his brother, Michael E. Nelson, of Miramar Beach, Florida, sister, Patricia Neuenschwander, and her husband Pride, of Morgantown WV and four nieces, Tracey Stahura, Amanda Nelson, Haylee Griffith and husband Patrick, Abbagail Mabin, and four great-nieces and one great-nephew.

Jim will be cremated per his request and entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral home of Stoneboro, PA.  Jim’s remains will be scattered over one of his favorite places at his bequest, Lake Erie, in a private event. A memorial to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.

Jim's presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to be a stalwart ray of warmth and joy for all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
